💫Why building a portfolio career is important

⌛ These 2 weeks have been a rollercoaster to me because my friends were affected again by the restructuring from the technology, banking and recruitment industries.

📮 Some of them recently formed a family, gave birth and bought a property on mortgage.

Because restructuring happens so frequently nowadays, I think employees (including myself) need to learn to be more adaptive.

💡 To be adaptive in terms of mindset:

1) Accept that restructuring/reorganization is going to be a norm and will happen more frequently with technology disruptions and global recession

2) Build your portfolio career: Don’t rely solely on your pay cheque

✨Try to have multiple sources of income including freelancing and launch other businesses

✨Even when you are cut, you have other income streams to pay off your monthly expenses

3) Stay up to date and learn new skills

✨If you are laid off, you can switch to another industry quickly with the right certification

🔶 Looking at the bright side, with restructuring happening so often, firms usually will replace their expensive staff with younger staff.

This also presents more opportunities for the younger generation to take up a senior position even though the salary increase might not be as ideal as before.

🌟Some of my friends managed to land offers with 15-20% increment + title increase but with much more workload.

What we can do now is to accept the new norm of the job market, and come up with ways to handle this situation.

💹 What do you think of the future job market?
