đ°Unpaid VS Paid internship?
Thanks for all the enthusiastic comments on my Part 2 regarding taking up paid/unpaid internships.
âď¸ I would like to share more details about my internship application experience and listen to different perspectives, especially those who are struggling with finding a job.Â
âď¸ When I was in Lower 6th/Form 6 (as I studied in the UK for lower and upper sixth before university), I applied for both paid and unpaid internships in Hong Kong. I sent out 200 applications that year and
I received 2 offers (One Paid & One Unpaid):
đ°One Paid Internship as a Marketing Officer at a boutique firm for a monthly salary HK$3,000 (USD 420/SGD 520)
đ°An Unpaid Internship at a well-known chamber shadowing one of the top barristers in Hong Kong
At the end, I decided to take up the unpaid internship at that chamber for 2 months while working as a part time private tutor at an hourly rate of HK$150 (USD 20/SGD 25) on the weekend.Â
âď¸Because I was deciding between Law or Economics as my University major and I believed that experience can broaden my horizon and highlight my resume.Â
âď¸Looking back, I am thankful for this opportunity as I used 2 months to find out that I enjoy business more than the legal industry.Â
âď¸Sometimes what we dream of having as a career might not be the same after we actually performed the job role. Only by doing, you will find out what you like or what you don't like.Â
