📊Unemployment Rate for Recent Graduates - Part 2:

Good Degree = Good Job and Life?

📊 I am currently in Singapore and came across an article - Degrees and Difficulty in the Economist.

Having more degrees do not guarantee finding a good job nor a better life.

They mentioned that a number of graduates are settling for low-skilled jobs such as food delivery and the problem is likely to get worse.

📊 Back in my days, I applied to over 100 internships in my first year of undergrad. I even offered to do non-paid internship at some companies. Only 10 firms returned my calls. I took on 2 unpaid internships at two famous firms and managed to network with different people.

Looking back, I would encourage you to

✅ Take more actions:

As we know the market is getting tougher, you need to have a stronger mindset to face more rejections and keep going until you land more job offers.

✅ Open to overseas opportunities:

If the country you are living in right now is going through economic recession, be open minded to take up jobs overseas.

Similar to dating, if your city has imbalanced gender ratio, you should be open to dating other nationalities.

Hence, I always recommend people to do long distance relationships if they cannot find someone ideal in their town.

✅ Network more:

Speak to people from different industries. Talk to professionals to accumulate more knowledge so you can increase your chance to land a job.

I am always frustrated when people came to me and asked whether I can guarantee to find them a job.

It's like asking me whether I can guarantee to find their love of their life.

What I can offer is opportunities and skills to improve yourself.

At the end of the day, you are responsible for your actions, aka, you need to go out and do your own work and be proactive!
