🏠 My parents retired early at 48 - Do you want to retire early?
I was chatting with my friends today and we were talking about our parents (Just like how parents love to compare their kids)
🌲 My parents went for a different path and retired early at 48.
They paid off their mortgage early and live on their passive income.
🚅 They chose to live further from Central. Hence they required a smaller amount to retire.
They have been travelling once a month since then.
🧠 My friends think my parents are cool but I always encourage my parents to “work” to keep their brains active and engage with the society on top of their monthly travel
They can
Either volunteer at social groups
Or
Have a side business to work on
📣 My parents would rebut that
📣📣We are in our 60s and we just want to chill!
I was joking with my friends and said even if I hit financial freedom, I actually did not want to retire.
💫 I enjoy work because it gives me meaning in life.
I can contribute back to society.
🛍 I can use the commission to
- spend on myself and my family,
- upgrade my lifestyle (Many financial gurus highly discourage this - but I will downgrade when I don’t earn much..) (Also you can retire early if you don't have lifestyle inflation!!)
- keep investing and improving myself
⏰ If I were forced out of corporate at 48, I would still open a company or operate as a freelancer and keep working until I die.
💤 Many years ago, I always joked that once I hit financial freedom at 35 years old, I would quit working in any jobs.
But I remember taking 2 weeks of holiday travelling in Asia when I had a good commission, I was chilling in the Bali resort.
🌞 The first day was amazing - swimming, surfing, reading and doing massage..
⛱ The third day was unbearable - I opened my laptop to work! (Am I a workaholic?)
Therefore I know that retiring early is never an option for me.
🌻 But working on something new to keep my brain busy is the way for me..
I always want to make more money to experience more options in life and explore my biggest potential..
🏝 How about you?
🏝 Have you thought of retiring early?
🏝 Or are you similar to me that you never plan to retire?
🏝 If yes, what’s your plan after leaving corporate?
