šŸ”‘ How a bad economy taught me to be a humble recruiter

In the past, business was so good that I placed on average a CFO/Finance Director once per 2 months

šŸ“® The fee would be so significant that I could just chill and do one more small placement to entitle to a decent bonus

If I ever picked up a junior or entry level job, I would rarely work on it and pass to someone else because of ROI

ā I would prioritise bigger roles to make more commission

-------

šŸŒ“ Fast forward with COVID and now recession

Head counts are declining globally

Fewer jobs and recruiters in the market

šŸ•– I had so much free time (Because of bad business) that I would do whatever roles I pick up (Unlike the taxi driver)

Graduate Hires? Sure!

1 Year+ Contract role? Sure!

------

ā˜€ļø However, I also learnt a lot during these 2 years

1. I spoke to more young graduates and learnt about their values

Many prefer working part time or taking gap year before a full time job

They want exposure, freedom and autonomy because they worry less about financialsĀ

--------

2. Because I work on entry levels to C-level jobs now

šŸŒˆ I notice the difference in pay between low and high income earners

šŸŒˆ I learnt more about different job functions

Why some functions pay less no matter how senior you climb

(They are usually highly repetitive such as admin and operations)Ā

Why some job functions pay moreĀ

(Especially in sales or when you are dealing with high ticket item or C-Levels)

Why C-level candidates are more responsible than junior candidates

(High income earners usually are more responsive and responsible compared to junior to middle level candidates who could suddenly disappear or disrespect you out of nowhere)

If you aim to be a C-Level, talk to them and start learning and acting like one

I also highly encourage you to talk to people from different levels and compare yourself with others to see where you can improve

šŸ”„ This year my goal is to continue to improve my long term thinking and take bigger risks! (As these 2 are my biggest weaknesses!)
