☎ Being a Slasher Vs a 9 to 5pm job

😃 How does our younger generation think nowadays

This question appeared at the University Interview group discussion

(with the permission of CUHK – They change the interview questions every day)

✏ It was interesting to listen to the younger generations’ thoughts.

✏ Majority of them prefer being a slasher than having a corporate job.

This explains why it is difficult for corporates to hire fresh graduates or retain young talent nowadays.

🖌 Many high school students want to be a slasher because of

-      Work flexibility (They can work anywhere they want)

-      Time flexibility (They can wake up later and save the commuting time)

📍 While I encourage everyone including the younger generation to go for what they want, I also want to share how to prepare to be a slasher and the pros and cons

-      Once you become a freelancer, it will be difficult to get a mortgage because banks look at your salary

-      It will be easier to be a freelancer if

o  You don’t need to worry about buying a property/any sort of mortgage

o  You already establish consistent income from your freelance work to cover your monthly expenses

o  You establish your personal brand or start up brand to generate consistent traffic and cashflows

-      I always encourage my juniors or even younger generation to establish their social media platform, e.g. Instagram, Youtube, Threads and LinkedIn

-      I notice many of my friends run their social media platform

🔶 My banking friend has an Instagram account and makes HK$20k per post

🔶 Her advertisement income from Instagram is even higher than her job income

🔶 She plans to resign once she launches her own product line

🔷 My architecture friend has a food Instagram account and makes HK$5,000 per post for visiting a new restaurant/café

While I believe the power and leverage of technology is strong, it is also important to keep in mind that the competition is even stronger.

Everyone is trying to stand out from the internet and be famous.

So I want to remind people who want to go freelance full time to weigh the pros and cons and prepare yourself to become a freelancer in the future!

Also not everyone is suitable to be a freelancer.

✨ For those who prefer stability, I think corporate jobs are a good way to reach personal success as well.

✨ There are many successful corporate CEO, MDs and Partners we can learn from as well!

✅ What about you?

✅ How do you weigh the pros and cons of a slasher and a corporate job?
